5 Reasons Why Builders Need a Strong Social Media Presence

Building and Social Media (2)Social media networking started in 2005 and homebuilding started tens of thousands of years ago, so why do social media and building go together?  Because your target customer is very interested in both.

Why do builders need a strong social media presence?  Here are 5 reasons to consider:

  1.  Your target customer is on social networks.  According to the latest report from Pew Internet & American Life Project, 67% of internet users use social networking sites.  66% are earning $75,000 or more.  The majority are in urban and suburban areas.  In other words, for most builders, social media users are the very people you want to reach.
  2. Social media builds your online presence.  As people search for homes, builders and information online, showing up on the first page is ideal.  With the right keywords (see Keywords are Keys to the Kingdom) in your writing for websites and social media, you can improve your chances of a search finding you and connecting you to your target customer.
  3. Long purchase cycle.  Unlike items found in grocery stores which have a short purchase cycle, building has a long purchase cycle and customers consider for a long time (a year is frequently mentioned) before making a decision to move forward.  A strong social media presence gives you a strategic way for your target customer to find you and get to know you when they are considering building or buying a home.
  4. Supports referrals.  Having a social media presence gives your loyal fans an easy way to refer you to others by sharing your social media sites or posts.
  5. Supports the conversation.  If a target customer is thinking about building a home, they are looking for answers to questions.  Social media provides a way to ask general questions without making the larger commitment by calling.  By entering into conversation with your target customer, you can develop an early relationship with them, improving the chances they will seek you out when they are ready.

Have you found results with your social media, or are you struggling to make it work for you?  Leave me a comment; I would love to know your experience. – Maureen
